2016 Trail Work Preview

Adirondack Mountain Club’s (ADK) Professional Trail Crew works hard to maintain the trails that you all love. Professional trail crews construct and maintain non-motorized trails throughout New York State’s Forest Preserve. As a major partner of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), ADK works on trails to the some of the most remote, wild and beautiful lands and waters this state has to offer. Their work is essential in protecting the natural resources surrounding the trail. Trail crews are trained in the art of trail building, moving rocks and boulders, building water-bars, digging trenches, building bridges, trimming back and clearing trails using predominantly muscle-power. This year, ADK’s pro-crew will be doing projects through out the Adirondacks and the Catskills.  Here is a brief preview of what they will be working on this year:

Adirondack Trail Projects

OK Slip Falls, Hudson River Gorge Primitive Area: 2 weeks

Dead Creek, Five Ponds Wilderness: 2 weeks

Northville-Placid Trail, Sampson Bog, West Canada Lakes Wilderness: 2 weeks

Avalanche Pass, High Peaks Wilderness: 6 weeks

Northville-Placid Trail near Blue Mountain Lake, Blue Ridge Wilderness: 1 week

Watch Hill, Jessup River Wild Forest: 2 weeks

Mt. Colden, High Peaks Wilderness: 4 weeks

Shattuck Clearing, High Peaks Wilderness: 1 week

Big Otter Lake Trail, Ha-de-ron-dah Wilderness: 3 weeks

Poko-Moonshine, Taylor Pond Wild Forest: 3 weeks

Catskill Trail Projects

Kaaterskill Falls, Kaaterskill Wild Forest: 11 weeks

Giant Ledge, Slide Mountain Wilderness: 3 weeks

ADK needs you, our members, donors and followers, so that we may continue to improve hiking trails, biking paths, paddling portages and necessary bridges that you depend on ADK to maintain within the Adirondack and Catskill Parks and around the state.
